Brussels Eureka!, the World Exhibition of Innovation, Research and New Technology, held its 54th annual show November 15-20, 2004. Two INPEX representatives and several American inventors made the trip to Brussels, Belgium.
Although INPEX has attended the show in the past, this was the first time they’ve exhibited in many years. "The show was excellent," said International Account Executive, Mandy Rizzo. "The Europeans were excited to see the innovations from the U.S."
Sylvana Micelli, who won a gold medal at INPEX 2000 for her Magnifying Makeup Eyeglasses was one of the U.S. inventors exhibiting. She was greeted with media attention, including a segment on Keynews Television, the leading television production company in French-speaking Belgium. "The media was interested in my invention, because it was a product for a woman, by a woman," said Micelli. "I’m hopeful good things will come out of it, but you have to wait and see."
Micelli’s invention was awarded a gold medal at Brussels Eureka!, as well as a trophy for the Prize of the Minister-President Charles Picqué. Other U.S. inventors also received awards: Nam & Haesook Oh were given a silver medal for their invention, Innosocks, and Tina Marie Connors received a silver medal for Towel Down. INPEX was awarded the "Prix of Designer Lavrat" for its contribution to the show.
Rizzo sums up the experience: "The show was professional and well organized, and we were pleased with the warm reception INPEX received."
