Young Inventors Shine at Kids' Day 2006

INPEX® believes you're never too young to be an inventor. So, on Saturday, June 10, we invited young inventors to INPEX to display their inventions, explore or just to have some fun at Kids' Day at the Invention Show.
Children from area schools were invited to bring their inventions to be judged, and were awarded a combined total of $1,000 in various cash prizes.
Award winners were:
- Young Inventor Award – Grace Kuffner
- Special Recognition – Zak Rodriguez
- 3rd Prize – Tyler Bailey
- 3rd Prize – Mari Haffner
- 2nd Prize – Mitchell Williams
- 1st Prize – Carly Harris
Kids were excited to meet two of the top four finalists from ABC's hit reality show, American Inventor. Erik Thompson, inventor of "The Catch," and Francisco Patino, inventor of the "Double Traction Bike," were available to meet with the children and sign autographs.
"Meeting with the American Inventor finalists was so cool," said J.D. Haffner. "I watched them every week on TV because I want to be like them someday."
At Kids' Day, young inventors had the chance to make Alka Rockets and worms with the Bayer Corporation, as well as experiment, create and construct with the Carnegie Science Center. They made bouncy balls and cotton candy with Mad Science, and learned about pet safety and checked out animals with the Humane Society.
Free face painting was available, and kids could munch on free chicken nuggets from Chick-Fil-A. Guardian Protection Services offered free fingerprints and digital photos, and kids danced and sang along with Radio Disney. Children got the chance to learn about fire safety with the Monroeville Fire Safety House, and showed off their soccer skills with the Pittsburgh River Hounds.
"Making the bouncy balls was my very favorite part," said Johnny Hepler. "There were so many cool things to do here."
The prizes for Kids' Day at the Invention Show were made possible by WIS Corp., an invention wholesaler that helps inventors with research and development, patent processing and manufacturing.
"Inventing is so much fun," said Carly Harris. "I really like coming to Kids' Day to show off my inventions."
