The Juvenile Products Manufacturers Association announced the winners of the 2008 Innovations Awards Competition yesterday. More than 130 products were entered in the competition and 10 winners were selected.

The 2008 Innovation Award Winners are:

  • Zigo Leaders's (booth 1945) carrier bicycle. It is the first mom- or dad-powered family transportation system. The parents can place one or two children in the ChildPod, put on a helmet and they're ready to go. The LeaderLink system allows the Leader to uncouple in 30 seconds or less, transforming it into the separate elements, Zigo ChildPod and Zigo Cycle. ChildPod can be converted into a jogger with the jogger kit or a traditional bicycle trailer with the trailer kit.
  • Baby Planet's (booth2649) Eden convertible bassinet. Its dual use as both a bassinet and toddler chair extends the product's usage. Eden also includes easy release hand grips to detach from the base, soothing music and vibration, easily accessible storage and a removable, machine washable liner.
  • Medela's (booth 7407) Freestyle breast pump. It is the first rechargeable, hands-free, double-electric breast pump. It weighs less than one pound and has Medela's exclusive two-phase expression technology. The pump attaches easily to nursing bras and the motor can born worn on the waist or placed on the lap or a table.
  • Teutonia's (booth 6138) stroller. The modular design allows for complete customization in-store with three seating options, like the t-Tario 32 car seat, two wheel options and three stroller chassis for different phases, stages and uses. Every seat snaps into every stroller chassis so they're easy to change as the child grows.
  • Wishbone Design's (booth 5725) Wishbone bike. The 3-in-1 ride-on toy is appropriate for one-year olds as a lightweight, stable trike (without pedals). It converts to a bike for two- to three-year olds to learn to balance on two wheels without trainers and then the frame can be flipped over for use by children up to five years old. The bike is eco-friendly – it's made from sustainable-harvested birch wood, recycled plastic wheels and non-toxic glues and finishes.
  • The Lindsay Loo Co.'s (booth 7026) Bibbies 4 Babies are strapless, snapless, Velcro-less bibs that stay put by magnets. They're made with 100% cotton and ultra leather with a lining that absorbs but doesn't leak. They're soak-proof, reversible and attach by flipping and clipping to the neckline, much like tucking in a napkin.
  • Stroll-Air's (booth113) handle sleeve covers. They come in three different sizes (9", 12", and 24") and can be mounted on most strollers on the market. The Neoprene stroller handle sleeve protects hard-to=replace, easy-to-damage foam stroller handles. It can also be used on stroller's bumper bars and shopping cart handles to protect against germs.
  • Scandinavian Child's (booth 6845) Beaba Babycook. The compact, patented countertop appliance serves as a steamer, blender, warmer and defroster to prepare meals for baby. It steams vegetables, fruits and meats in less than 15 minutes, preserving their vitamins and flavors. It also purees or blends to desired consistency and can be used for reheating or defrosting precooked foods.
  • Cardinal Gates' (booth3621) Lock N Block sliding door gate. This patent pending safety gate was invented by 10-year old Tharon Trujillo – the youngest JMPA Innovation Award winner ever. The gate is made specifically for sliding patio doors by placing the gate snuggly in the track and clamping the gate into the functional panel of the sliding door. The clamping mechanism prevents slipping once attached and the bumpers pivot to accommodate various tracks.
  • 4moms' (booth 905) Mamaroo. The Mamaroo is an improvement on the bouncy seat and baby swing. It has controlled lateral motion in two dimensions and can mimic the soothing movements mothers make when holding babies. Through a variety of controls parents can alter the speed and type of movement depending. Soothing songs are included, but the unit also has an audio dock so parents can personalize the audio experience.
