Pittsburgh Places to See While You’re at INPEX

By Emily Moorhead

Are you excited for your trip to Pittsburgh for INPEX? We sure are excited to have you! Although your daylight hours will be filled to the brim with show floor time, panels, product searches, and networking, you’ll probably have some time to hang out in Pittsburgh at night or in the days immediately before and after the show. So why not make the best of your mini vacation?

Take Me Out to the Ballgame

The Pittsburgh Pirates have a series with the Colorado Rockies while you’ll be in town for INPEX. The stadium is just a 15 minute walk from the David L Lawrence Convention Center! They play Monday, June 12 at 7:05pm, Tuesday, June 13 at 7:05pm (this also happens to be pup night!), and Wednesday, June 14 at 7:05pm. If you’re still around on Friday night, the Pirates will be playing the Cincinnati Reds at 7:05pm. View the schedule here

Schedule Some Sight Seeing

What better way to see the city you’re visiting than by taking a tour? In downtown Pittsburgh, there are a couple unique options for seeing the city. Just Ducky Tours will take you on both land and water in a vehicle that is suited for both! First, you’ll ride in the boat-car around the streets of downtown, then you’ll splash down to the rivers where you’ll have a magnificent view of the city. If you tend to get a little seasick, you might want to opt for a Segway tour instead. There are several different tour options depending on what you want to see. Check them all out here.

A Day at the Museum

Pittsburgh boasts many museums, so if you want to add a little education to your trip, you’re in luck! Some of them are even very close to the convention center. The Heinz History Center just a 10 minute walk away and features interactive exhibitions focused around 250 years of western PA history. For a more hands-on experience, check out the Carnegie Science Center, about a 20 minute walk away. It has four floors of interactive exhibits featuring the human body, water systems, robotics, magnetics, and even a Cold War-era submarine! If art is more your thing, be sure to check out the Andy Warhol Museum, about a 20 minute walk from the convention center. This seven-floor experience houses the largest collection of Warhol art and archives in the world.

Shop ‘Til You Drop!

Pittsburgh’s nearby Strip District offers a plethora of open air markets and brick and mortar local businesses. It’s a great place to shop for interesting ingredients, street food, commemorative Pittsburgh swag, and gifts for friends and family. Be sure to check out Wholey’s, a fresh-caught seafood market, Pamela’s, a popular local diner, Pennsylvania Macaroni company, a fresh pasta joint, and the various sidewalk vendors.

Let’s Get Cultural

The David L. Lawrence Convention Center is in the heart of the cultural district, which hosts the most theatre venues and art galleries in the Pittsburgh area. There are several shows playing during the week of INPEX, so head out for a night on the town! See all the shows here. Additionally, 1970s-80s musical duo Hall and Oates are playing a show in Pittsburgh on Tuesday, June 13. Tickets may sell out, but at the time of publication, there were some still available!

There are plenty of activities to keep you busy during your off time at INPEX. We hope you find something fun to do and make memories for years to come!
