INPEX participates in the Sarulla Geothermal Power Project in the Republic of Indonesia through its subsidiary INPEX Geothermal Sarulla.

The project is one of the world's largest geothermal power plants located in the Sarulla block in northern Sumatra on the island of Sumatra. This geothermal block is owned by Pertamina Geothermal Energy, a subsidiary of Indonesia's state-owned oil company Pertamina. The block is being jointly developed by a consortium comprising Itochu Corporation, Kyushu Electric Power, Medco, Ormat, their respective subsidiaries and the jointly invested operating company, Sarulla Operations Ltd. The project involves the operation of a geothermal power plant with a total output capacity of approximately 330 megawatts, equivalent to the annual electricity consumption of approximately 700,000 average households in Japan. The generated electricity will be sold to the Indonesian state electricity company over a period of 30 years. Construction of the power plant began in 2014, with the first and second units commencing commercial operations in 2017, and the third unit in 2018.
